چکیده
There exists a group of persistently faint galactic X-ray sources that, based on their location in the galaxy, high Lx/Lopt, association with X-ray bursts, and absence of low frequency Xray pulsations, are thought to be low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs). We present results from Chandra observations for eight of these systems: 4U 1708–408, 2S 1711–339, KS 1739–304, SLX 1735–269, GRS 1736–297, SLX 1746–331, 1E 1746.7–3224, and 4U 1812–12. Locations for all sources, excluding GRS 1736–297, SLX 1746–331, and KS 1739–304 (which were not detected) were improved to 0.6 error circles (90% confidence). Our observations support earlier findings of transient behavior of GRS 1736-297, KS 1739–304, SLX 1746-331, and 2S 1711-339 (which we detect in one of two observations). Energy spectra for 4U 1708–408, 2S 1711–339, SLX 1735–269, 1E 1746.7-3224, and 4U 1812–12 are hard, with power law indices typically 1.4-2.1, which are consistent with typical faint LMXB spectra. Subject headings: Accretion, Accretion Disks, Stars: Binaries: Close, stars: individual (4U 1708–408, 2S 1711–339, KS 1739–304, SLX 1735–269, GRS 1736–297, SLX 1746–331, 1E 1746.7–3224, 4U 1812–12),

The well-studied X-ray/Optical/Radio supernova remnant DDB 1-15 (CXOM31 J004327.8+411829; r3-63) in M31 has been investigated with archival XMM-Newton and Chandra observations. The timing data from XMM-Newton reveals a power density spectrum (PDS) characteristic of accreting compact objects in X-ray binaries (XRBs). The PDS shows features typical of Roche lobe overflow accretion, hinting that t...

Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT Chandra and XMM-Newton X-ray data reveal that the supersoft X-ray binary CAL 83 exhibits 38.4 minute pulsations at some epochs. These X-ray variations are similar to those found in some novae and are likely to be caused by nonradial pulsations the white dwarf. This is the first detection of pulsations in a persistent supersoft source.

We present X-ray and optical observations of a new transient X-ray source in M31 first detected 23-May-2004 at R.A.=00:43:09.940 ±0.65, Dec.=41:23:32.49 ±0.66. The X-ray lightcurve shows two peaks separated by several months, reminiscent of many Galactic X-ray novae. The location and X-ray spectrum of the source suggest it is a low mass X-ray binary (LMXB). Follow-up HST ACS observations of the...

The 2 Ms Chandra Deep Field-North survey provides the deepest view of the Universe in the 0.5–8.0 keV X-ray band. In this brief review we investigate the diversity of X-ray selected sources and focus on the constraints placed on AGNs (including binary AGNs) in high-redshift submm galaxies.
